- Compact Milli-RO Plus reverse osmosis systems produce 6 or 10 liters per hour of high purity water that is low in ionic, organic, and particulate contamination. The Milli-RO Plus system water is ideal for non-critical or qualitative analyses and glassware washing and rinsing. These systems also provide effective pretreatment of water prior to final polishing with compact Milli-Q Plus water systems.
Minimal Pretreatment Required
Since most potable water contains bacteria, colloids, silt, and particles, simple prefiltration is usually required (especially on surface waters). The ROpak pretreatment pack removes most organic contaminants and chlorine, and prevents scaling with its patented configuration, so softening is generally not required. Built-in conductivity probes allow the user to monitor feed and permeate water conductivity and to check the performance (% rejection) of the RO membrane. Milli-RO 6 Plus and Milli-RO 10 Plus systems have a built-in automatic flush for the RO membrane. Auto-flush allows a high flow of water to pass tangentially across the surface of the membrane to drain. During the auto-flush cycle there is no transmembrane pressure on the RO cartridge. This feature allows any material building up on the membrane surface to be flushed to drain. The RO cartridge may be easily decontaminated by the use of cleaning tablets and the preprogrammed auto-clean cycle. This is a simple 10-second operation! Milli-RO Plus systems incorporate an indicator which signals the user when the pretreatment pack requires changing. In addition, the systems have an alphanumeric display which clearly indicates the operating status of the system at all times. Milli-RO Plus systems are compact in size - only 498 mm (20") in height, 297 mm (12") in width, and 340 mm (14") in depth - and can be bench-top operated or wall mounted.

A Note About Pretreatment
Note that the 15-minute silt density index (SDI15) of feedwater must be lower than 5. Most surface water supplies have an SDI15 >5 during part of the year due to seasonal changes, so prefiltration generally will be needed. Well water is sometimes acceptable, but it should periodically be tested. <5.0 (some well waters): 5 micron prefilter recommended for safety; 5.1 - 5.4: 5 micron prefilte>5.4* 5 micron and 1 micron prefilters (10"). * A silt density index >5.4 means that a 47 mm, 0.45 µm Millipore filter becomes more than 80% plugged in the industry standard 15-minute test.
